Film Magazine Research with Mo

On the front cover of film magazines there are usually famous actors who are currently starring in a blockbuster film, the name of the magazine is in the background so that they can focus on the images in the foreground, news about upcoming films and actors, the theme of he magazine will match the film being promoted, smaller images of other upcoming films which have a famous actor, even if they aren't playing the main character. A link to the their website in small writing, advice to the reader. They will feature an "exclusive", this could be news about a film or actor.
The picture will be a close up/medium shot of the character(s), if it is a drama then the characters will look very serious or sad, whereas a comedy will show the actor laughing or in a funny situation.

The average price is between £3-£5.

The competitions are accustomed to the magazine genre, for example a gossip magazine which is aimed towards women will have a competition to go away to the Bahamas or a high-quality kitchen appliance. In film magazines they will have give you a chance to see a film behind the scenes, and offer all expenses payed, or an expensive TV, Blu ray player, etc.

The articles can vary from reviews, to awards, advice on films, news about actors, but not gossip, more like acting techniques and what their experiences were like whilst working on a movie set, news about independent films who don't have the budget for promotion and interviews with actors, film-makers, etc.

The colour of the cover will be related to the current theme, or film that is being advertised. The colour of the magazine title generally doesn't change unless it really doesn't go with the background, they will be very bold to create emphasis.

One magazine had 150 pages in total.

The contents page will be very clustered because there are many pages, however the most important articles will be in a large, bold font because the reader will want to read them first, other articles will not be in bold and in a smaller font. There will be several images all over the page but it will still be in a organized fashion.

On a double page spread there will be a large image on the right page, whereas the first page will have smaller image with a caption. The title, which could be a film title or an interview with someone, will be one the first page in a larger font than the rest of the article. In the middle of the article there will be a large quote in bold, which may shock the reader in case they didn't want to read the article but after seeing this quote they might.

The Magazine Unit

We are now making a magazine with 4 pages but because I'm working with someone we're doing 8 in total, this includes the front and back page. We have to pick a genre of what our magazine is going to be about, in this case we picked film as the genre. We can work together as 2 and no more. We are also not allowed to do put any inappropriate pictures for teenagers as they will be rejected also some of the photos must be taken by yourself and you're not allowed to do a music magazine as we are doing that next year.

Analysis of own Marketing Campaign

Website:
·         I have signified that the genre of my film is an action film by putting guns and having the thumbnail on the trailer as an explosion; it also has muscly men posing aggressively. The quote from EMPIRE saying that it’s the best action film of the year indicates its action too.
·         The conventions of a website that I have included in mine are buttons, embedded trailer, gallery, links to facebook and twitter.
·         I have included the famous actors, Vin Diesel and Tom Cruise as they are popular action actors. This will affect the audience by making them think the film is already awesome because it has their favourite action actors in it, it would also draw in the audience from the past films the actors have been in.
·         On my website I showed that the actors are notorious and cold-blooded I did this by taking shots of them with straight faces with a fierce look on their face. I also showed Vin Diesel with his arms folded as you can see his muscles clearly. This shows that he is strong and bold and will be an important character in this film. Tom Cruise has a straight face and has a hoody on with the hood way over his head to show that he is hiding or sneaking around. Showing that he’s a spy or maybe part of the covert ops.  They are both wearing black, black’s connotations are death showing that they are not merciful and are looking for violence.
·         In the trailer thumbnail I have shown explosions in a desert type area showing that this can be in a desert or somewhere in the middle-east although the characters are American this means that they’re could be a lot of travelling.
·         The website will appeal to male teenagers and onwards as it shows guns and violence and the trailer includes a lot of action as shown through the thumbnail and the website includes guns on it. There is a video and gallery button on the website so that people can see mini-clips of the film and photos that have been taking too. This will appeal to the males as it gives them more info little by little and makes the film more anticipated.
·         They would be encouraged to see the film because it is reviewed by EMPIRE which is a huge company which reviews films and gave it a 5/5 stars, which would make the audience think that the film is very good and the actors are hard people to get as well so they can tell that this film is a very high budget film meaning that it most likely would be good.
Storyboard:
·         I have signified the genre in my storyboard by including scenes when there is a lot of guns and violence it shows covert ops in operation too. This means that this is an action film, it had grenades too and tough men shouting. The colours were dark because part of the operation in the first part of the

This is England

1.) The production company is Film4 and WarpFilms.
2.) The director is Shane Meadows.
3.) The budget of the film is $2,380,000.
4.) The gross profit is $8,176,544.
5.) They won:
Writers' Guild of Great Britain Award,
Special Jury Award,
Best Director Award,
Young European Jury Award,
Best European Film,
UK Film Talent Award,
Young Audience Award,
British Independent Film Award,
BAFTA Film Award.
6.) You can tell it has a low budget because the website isnt as big as others and doesnt have that much graphical effects on it, this is shown as the website looks like it's just big cutouts from a picture.
7.) It tells us that it's a crime/gang genre as it shows in the character section that the characters are in gang and the looks and costumes of the characters shows that too.
8.) You can tell it's for people who like violence and drama as it is a crime/gang genre and shows it in the old days of Britain, so this can be targeted at old aged people too. Teenagers wouldn't be so attracted to it because they like more of the modern films than old ones.
